BSG x FWR Webinar: Whose Earth? Whose Future?

Whose Earth? Whose Future? Reimagining tools for Planetary Justice

On Monday 6th July the interns organised the 4th annual British Society for Geomorphology webinar. The interns explored themes including:

  1. What can we learn from the earth, and how can we learn it? What different tools or senses can help us understand our planet better, and protect it better?

  2. What can academia offer us when it comes to producing knowledge, and what is excluded when we only value academic knowledge centres?

  3. What does planetary justice mean to you? Who or what is currently made invisible within our universe, and how can we include them when we think about planetary justice?

We were excited to invite four wonderful speakers:

🪨 Kathryn Yusoff, author of A Billion Black Anthropocenes, is a transdisciplinary researcher exploring the colonial reality and histories of geology.

🌱 Neyen Pailamilla is a Mapuche performance artist and researcher, who uses movement and creative practice to find new ways of understanding and connecting with the earth.

💫 Ben Cornford is a recent PhD graduate, with a particular focus on the geomorphological histories of Mars' landscapes. Ben also organises meteor shower viewings in the Peak District for young people.

📡 Julia DeMarines is an astrobiologist, educator and researcher, whose research involves detecting life in space, and exploring what the future of extraterrestrial communication might look like.
